Gota d’Agua Surf Camp

Magikvanilla Surf House Portugal

Hello, Magik people that is right after waiting for some more specific information we are happy to let you guys know that we will open our camp again on the 20th of June. That’s right, not long now;) To reopen, we had to follow some guidelines to comply with all the health and safety advice from the national and local authorities, to keep giving you a fun and safe experience. Instead of writing a long explanation, we decided to let you know with a Q&A with questions you have probably asked yourself and make sense if you are planning to join us this summer;)

CAN I TRAVEL?

Let’s say yes. Portugal opened its borders on the 1st of June allowing the majority of countries to fly in, so on our end, you are good to go, all you need to do is check with your local authorities to make sure you can come. Following there are two links that might be useful as they explain what changed, safety measures etc. for airports and airlines.

IS THE HOUSE GOING TO BE FULL?

We will start the season with reduced capacity. Out of the eight rooms inside the main house, only five will be available each week, allowing each room to have their private bathroom. People travelling solo will be accommodated in one of our twins/double rooms every time possible. In the event of unavailability sharing accommodation (5 people dorms) will have a maximum of two people and only groups travelling together will be able to use the dorms at full capacity.

HOW WILL BREAKFAST WORK AND WILL I BE ABLE TO USE THE KITCHEN?

Breakfast will work as usual, although we will be serving you for the time being to avoid unnecessary contact with food and utensils. And yes, you will be able to use the kitchen, we will be disinfecting the surfaces several times a day. There will be a limited number allowed in the kitchen at the same time, and the good news is that this year you won’t have to wash up, there is a new member of the Magik Crew, and will wash and disinfect it at the push of a button, and its name is Donald the Dishwasher;)

WHAT IF ME OR ONE OF MY TRAVEL PARTNERS SHOW SYMPTOMS?

Anyone showing symptoms will follow the protocol in place, allowing their safety as well as the rest of the group. This year we allocated one room & bathroom to self isolate anyone that shows any symptoms, so we can monitor them and call the helpline for assistance if needed. In the event of quarantine, we will help you any way possible to make sure you have a place to stay either with us or somewhere else, even if it means extending your stay in Ericeira.

LET’S TALK ABOUT SURF;) WILL I BE ABLE TO HAVE NORMAL SURF LESSONS?

Yes, you will. There are a few small changes but we are still able to give you a great lesson.

HOW MANY CAN GO TO THE BEACH AT THE SAME TIME AND WILL I HAVE TO BRING MY WETSUIT?

At the moment we will only be able to take 10 surfers + 2/3 Instructors per lesson. One of the guidelines of the Portuguese Surf Federation is to recommend the use of your wetsuit. But don’t worry if you don’t have one, we will provide you one, as always, we will designate one of our wetsuits just for you so you won’t be sharing it with anyone else during your stay with us. At the end of each lesson, all wetsuits will be adequately sanitized and disinfected by one of our team members.

WILL I STILL BE ABLE TO GET AN AIRPORT TRANSFER?

Yes, you will, at this moment we can only transport 2/3 of the vehicle’s capacity if not travelling together (family, friends). You will have to wear a mask, and alcohol-based gel will be given to you to clean your hands before you jump in one of our vans.

CAN I STILL GO TO THE BEACH?

Yes. The latest information released says that surveilled beaches (with lifeguards) will have a maximum capacity allowed, there is a safe distance between people of 1,5m (not applied if they belong to the same group). Beach Bars & Cafés will be open, and the use of a mask is mandatory.

IS WEDNESDAY NIGHT STILL THE NIGHT FOR BBQ? WHAT’S DIFFERENT?

BBQ is on; the main difference is the buffet-style that for the time being will be replaced for a friendly and smiley face dishing you your favourites, Avoiding this way the unnecessary contact with utensils and equipment usually reachable by everyone.

WHAT PRECAUTIONS MUST I HAVE TO BE ABLE TO JOIN THE SURF CAMP?

Most of all, have a positive, caring attitude. We all have an essential role to play in all this. More than protecting ourselves, we need to protect others so if you have any symptoms no matter how light they are, make sure your decisions don’t put anyone at risk. We will be here to help you and support in any way possible. We aim to keep giving you the best time ever.

LAST TIME I WAS AT MAGIK I HAD THE BEST TIME. HOW IS THE SOCIAL SIDE?

If you have been at Magik before, you know that besides the surf it is also about the social experience, it is made of all those moments we share a story, have a drink, watch the sunset and share a good laugh. We will keep it that way, and it is possible we only need to adjust a few things.

We are currently studying a way to keep beer pong alive;)

WHAT OTHER CHANGES CAN I EXPECT?

At this point, you will find almost every shop, cafe, supermarket & restaurant open, most with reduced capacity and with the mandatory use of the mask but still offering you the same service you remember from your last stay with us. All measures taken are part of Magikvanillas protocol for Clean & Safety. These measures will be reviewed and adjusted if needed and always following the OMS, DGS (National Health Department) Tourism of Portugal and FPS (Portuguese Surf Federation) to assure you have a fun and safe experience.
